联合国发言人4月6日(周五)表示，2017年中国太阳能投资已经超过化石燃料投资，成为全球激增的驱动力。 联合国环境规划署周四发布的一份报告发现，2017年之前太阳能从未在全球投资占主导地位，但2017年太阳能发电量比其他技术的投资额高出1608亿美元，比2016年增长18%。这一激增背后的驱动力就是领先世界太阳能全部发电量的一半的中国。 发言人表示，2017年全球新增太阳能装机容量98GW，远高于其他可再生能源的净增量，中国太阳能装机量53GW，超过全球总量的一半，投资额为865亿美元，增长58%。 总体而言，中国是迄今为止全球最大的可再生能源投资国，创纪录126.6亿美元，比2016年增长31%。澳大利亚，墨西哥和瑞典的投资也大幅增加。去年是全球可再生能源投资超过2000亿美元的连续第八年，自2004年以来，全球已投入2.9万亿美元用于这些绿色能源。
